Maintenance method of vernier caliper

A vernier caliper is a measuring tool for length, inner and outer diameters, and depth. The vernier caliper is composed of two parts, the paramount ruler and the sliding vernier attached to the central ruler. The paramount ruler is generally in millimeters, and the vernier has 10, 20, or 50 divisions. According to the division, the vernier calipers can be divided into ten degrees, twenty degrees, and fifty degrees. The main scale and vernier caliper have two sets of movable claws: the inner measuring claw and the outer measuring claw. The internal measuring claw is usually used to measure the inner diameter, and the outer measuring claw is traditionally used to measure the length and outer diameter.

steps/methods

1. The vernier caliper is a relatively precise measuring tool, so it should be handled with care and must not be bumped or dropped to the ground. Please do not use it to measure rough objects to avoid damaging the measuring claws. When not used, it should be placed in a dry place to prevent corrosion.

2. When measuring, the fastening screw should be loosened first, and the cursor should not be moved excessively. The contact between the two measuring claws and the object to be tested should not be too tight. The clamped object cannot be carried in the measuring jaw.

3. After the measurement, the caliper should be placed flat, especially for large-sized calipers. Otherwise, the body of the caliper will be bent and deformed.

4. When reading, the line of sight should be perpendicular to the ruler’s surface. If the reading needs to be fixed, the vernier can be set on the scale body with fastening screws to prevent sliding.

5. It is not allowed to use the two measuring claws of the caliper as screw wrenches or use the tip of the measuring claws as a marking tool, compasses, etc. When moving the frame of the caliper and the micro-movement device, don’t forget to loosen the fastening screws; but don’t loosen too much to prevent the screws from falling off and being lost.

6.For the vernier caliper with a depth gauge, close the measuring claws after use. Otherwise, the thinner depth gauge will be exposed outside and easily deformed or even broken.
